FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science Outstanding Educator Recognized by The Engineers’ Council

Madasamy Arockiasamy, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering was presented with the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award by The Engineers’ Council. The award was presented at the 5th Annual National Engineers Week Honors and Awards Banquet held on February 20, 2015 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The event was hosted by The Engineers’ Council in partnership with the Business Development Board (BDB) of Palm Beach County.

"We are very proud to have Dr. Arockiasamy represent our college," said Mohammad Ilyas, Ph.D., dean of FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. "As an educator and practitioner, he is exceptional at bringing engineering practices into his classroom education."

The Distinguished Engineering Educator Award recognizes individuals who are outstanding in professional qualities and have a top reputation for engineering education, mentorship and leadership. Arockiasamy was selected for his established record of research and teaching in the areas of materials, structures and renewable energy. He has written more than 200 technical publications and has advised more than 57 graduate students in his 40 years of academic experience. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American National Standards Institute.

The Engineers' Council is a not-for-profit professional society that was founded in 1955 to advance education in engineering and the sciences, encourage engineering career selection and to recognize engineers for their accomplishments. The annual banquet was attended by representatives from engineering, manufacturing, education and technical society organizations. Proceeds from the banquet are used to fund scholarships, high school mentoring and middle-school math and science educational enrichment programs the council engages in throughout the year.

The BDB is the official public/private economic development organization for Palm Beach County and Enterprise Florida whose mission is to stimulate economic energy, promote business diversity and enrich the vitality of Palm Beach County through the relocation, retention, and expansion of companies to or in Palm Beach County.
