FAU Honors 2018 Distinguished Alumni

The Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association (FAUAA) hosted its annual Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni ceremony and reception Wednesday, May 2, 2018. The event brought together alumni to celebrate the accomplishments of their most outstanding peers. Alumni from seven of FAU’s colleges were honored for their career accomplishments.

“This event recognizes extraordinary alumni who demonstrate exceptional service and commitment to their professions or to the community,” said FAU President John Kelly . “It is an honor to call them Owls.”

The distinguished alum for the FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science for 2018 was Ryan Wheeler, B.S. ’06. Wheeler is a licensed Professional Engineer with the State of Florida at Caulfield & Wheeler, Inc. since May of 2003, and is a certified LEED® accredited professional with the U.S. Green Building Council.  Wheeler has been involved with various projects ranging in size from single-family homes to large multi-family home projects, as well as other commercial and mixed-use projects.  His scope of services ranges from the design and calculations involved with engineering design, to the permitting and finalization aspects of the projects with the various permitting agencies.

Wheeler currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Council to the Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatics Engineering in the college.  His leadership role at FAU was deeply planted by his father, John Wheeler who also played a pivotal role in the department’s Advisory Council.  Wheeler also serves on the City of Boynton Beach Planning and Development Board, and he previously served on the City of Boynton Beach Community Alliance on the Land Use, Landscaping, and Irrigation sub team to help promote sustainable construction projects.
